Thiago: De Gea wanted me to join Manchester United instead of Bayern
The former Barcelona star says the Premier League is "probably the best league in the world" but insists he never received a firm proposal from the Red Devils
Thiago Alcantara says David De Gea wanted him to sign for Manchester United when he leftBarcelona but insists he had no hesitation in moving to Bayern Munich instead.

The Spain international left Camp Nou in 2013, with then-Manchester United manager David Moyes keen on making the midfielder one of his first signings at Old Trafford.

Thiago eventually opted to move to the Allianz Arena instead but revealed his Spain team-mate had tried his best to convince him to play in the Premier League.

“There was never any firm proposal [from Man United],” Thiago told the Daily Mail. “David de Gea wanted me to join. He wrote a message on my match ball after we'd beaten Italy in the final [of the European Under-21 Championship].
“But I'd have done the same with him. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. You always want to play with the best. But it was always going to be Munich.”

Thiago admitted a move to the Premier League is an attractive proposition but says he is happy to stay with Bayern for the forseeable future.
